and what kind of name is Mima?

I figure it would be good to give you a quick background. I was born and raised in Caparra, Puerto Rico. My real name is Ismael (no h please). My younger brother could not pronounce my name properly so he would only say Mimael and being of the short attention span variety Mima was borned. As many times as I have tried to leave the name behind, someone from my childhood infiltrates my social/work environs and the name resurfaces again. It has gotten so bad, that the executives at the company I work could not tell you what my real name is. I guess I am now in the company of Cher, Madonna, and all those one name divas (not the I am one of course)

Contact Lenses

This summer I've been cycling a lot, however I need my glasses to be able to see were I am going and not hit a car, which I have done before... actually the car hit me, but that is another story. I also ski and discovered that the prescription goggle insert gets foggy very quickly. Faced with that dilemma, I decided to give contact lenses a try. The caveat being that they need to work for distance and for reading. So I went and got me some contact lenses. Easy stuff you say? Put my glasses on, find the solution and the contacts, poke my eyes putting them in (10 minutes per eye) and then I can see! I need practice poking my eyes, but for now it works great. The best part is that I can see what I am knitting.

Welcome to my blog.

I was inspired to do this by a very good friend in New York (Peebstuff) who contrary to me can write very well, and a friend of his who happens to be a fellow knitter. I recently discovered a website of men who knit, www.menknit.net; after reading some of the blogs, I found that I had a lot of company, however, I have never seen any men at the yarn store when I am there. I wonder where they are hiding??

I started knitting 25 years ago when I became fascinated by the intricacies of Irish knit sweaters, however when I discovered Kaffe Fassett's "Glorious Knits" I was totally hooked. First it was the Rowan Kits, then as confidence increased , I started coming up with my own colorways and different textures. Regrettably to the best of my knowledge Rowan does not carry his kits anymore, (if I am wrong, please let me know since there is one kit in particular I would love to get), however Mr. Fassett knitting philosophy suited me to a "T", there are no hard rules, experiment and try new things, there are no mistakes, just very happy detours. I will post pictures of all my projects as soon as I figure out that part of the blog.

Just like the first years of the Johnny Carson show, I have no pictures of some of my first sweaters. I am however happy to say that I am up to 20 of Kaffe Fassett sweaters.
